Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai Helped Jacqueline Bag Cameo In Housefull

Her debut film Aladin may not have worked at the B.O. but that hasn’t deterred Jacqueline Fernandez one bit. In fact, the gorgeous actress, who will be seen next in Milap Zaveri’s directorial debut Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (JKSAH), has caught the attention of many-a-top filmmakers one of them being Sajid Khan.

The story goes that Sajid was so impressed with Jacqueline in JKSAH that he decided on casting her in a special appearance in his film Housefull. Says director Milap Zaveri, “Everyone knows that Jackie has done a special appearance in a song in Housefull but no one knows how she bagged that. It so happened that Sajid Nadiadwala and Sajid Khan were looking for an actress to do a guest appearance in the ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taise’ track when they saw JKSAH. They both loved the film and especially Jackie’s performance and decided on casting her in that song.”

Sajid Khan also is happy that he cast Jacqueline for the cameo in the song. “Jackie fit the bill perfectly. I really liked her work in JKSAH and thought she looked really hot in some sequences. So we (producer Sajid Nadiadwala and I) immediately zeroed in on her for a small part in the ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taise’ track.”

Looks like JKSAH has already begun doing wonders for Jacqueline’s career even before its release.

SRK In Middle Of Controversy Once Again – Courtesy Lux Cozy

No sooner that the controversy around SRK’s comments on Pakistani cricket players has settled down, the actor finds himself in yet another controversy related to the IPL.

This time round, it’s the courtesy of inner wear brand Lux Cozy, of which, SRK is the recently appointed brand ambassador. The story goes that, since SRK is the brand ambassador of the said brand, it was rest understood as to they will be sponsoring the uniforms for Khan’s T-20 team Kolkata Knight Riders, besides a monetary angle of course. All was well so far. Now the twist in the tale is that the Lux Company is owned by the Todi brothers (Ashok and Pradip). They are the same Todi brothers who were charged with apparently leading to the suicide of computer graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman, a Muslim, after he married Ashok Todi’s daughter Priyanka, who was a Hindu by religion.

This news had made it to the national headlines and remained atop for quite sometime. This ‘sponsorship’ move by SRK for KKR with the said brand has not been taken kindly by many. That’s the reason why it has sparked anger in many people’s heart. Not just that, since it has a religious pinch to it, a few religious bodies too have come in the forefront to express their opposition. In the lieu of all this, there has been a meeting that has been arranged which will include artistes, actors, dancers, writers, performers and also a few prominent names express solid opposition to the controversial tie-up.

My Name Is Khan Failing To Bring The Crowd – Public Review

‘My Name Is Khan’ Not Bringing In The Crowds Any More

After a bumper opening, Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘My Name Is Khan’ is being cold-shouldered by the audience in New Delhi. Cinema hall owners blame the “non-entertaining content” of the movie.

“There is a huge fall in ‘My Name Is Khan’ ticket sales. While it was just 30 percent Wednesday, it is only 20 percent Thursday. The film is not being appreciated because of the content,” Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, told us.

“The entertainment aspect in the movie is zero. Thought is has some emotions, there is nothing much to offer,” he added.

A source in PVR cinemas echoed the news.

“Our occupancy has fallen from around 90 percent to 50 percent Monday onwards because of the content of the movie. We are guessing it will stretch to one week more,” said the source.

A love story set against the backdrop of racial discrimination post 9/11, ‘My Name Is Khan’ grossed an estimated $18 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend.

Directed by Karan Johar, the movie is being marketed and distributed by Fox Star in India, in the US by its sister company Fox Searchlight, and in the rest of the world by parent group company 20th Century Fox International.

“There has been a drastic fall after Monday for ‘My Name Is Khan’. There is no entertainment aspect in it and lacks mass appeal. It has repeated the history of Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Kurbaan’,” said Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan.

“From critics’ point of view both have been good movies but the youngsters today want only entertainment which these two could not fulfill,” he added.

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, however, has a different opinion for the fall in occupancy of the movie.

“Footfalls for ‘My Name Is Khan’ have fallen but the weekend is expected to be good. The occupancy at present is about 30 percent which is decent enough considering it is a working week and that there are close to 12-14 shows per day across different properties for the movie,” said Raizada.

“The movie will sustain business and occupancy will be close to 70-80 percent over the weekend,” he predicted.

Rohit Shetty announces official cast of Golmaal 3

After directing two super hit films in the Golmaal series, Rohit Shetty’s third installment in the franchise Golmaal 3 is being awaited eagerly. In fact, during the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about various names being part of the cast of this much awaited film. Hence, we decided it was best to verify with the man himself on who actually forms the principal cast.

When we got in touch with Rohit Shetty asking him about the final cast of Golmaal 3, the talented director replied in his trademark humorous style, “There is so much speculation going around about the cast, it seems like I am making a Mughal-e-Azam”. Speaking about the cast, Rohit said, “Let me clear all misconceptions once and for all. Golmaal 3 stars Ajay Devagn, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah in principal roles. Besides some of my favorite actors like Johnny Lever, Murli Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar and Sanjay Mishra also form the supporting cast.”

Speaking on some of the new members of the Golmaal family, Rohit says, “Yes we have Kunal Khemu, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah as new members of the cast. They are all new characters in the plot. Contrary to rumors, Mithun is not playing the character played by Paresh Rawal in the first part. It’s a completely new character. Mithun and Ratna Pathak Shah’s characters also end up getting married during the course of the film”

We also asked him about the buzz doing the rounds that Arshad was not a part of the film. “No…Arshad is very much a part of Golmaal 3. In fact, we just finalized things with him today morning.”

Rohit begins filming Golmaal 3 with a 10 day schedule in Mumbai starting March 20 followed by a 50 day schedule at his favorite location Goa. Like his previous two films- All The Best and Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 too will have a grand Diwali release on Nov 5 this year.

Besides Golmaal 3, Rohit is all set to direct his close buddy Ajay Devgn in an out and out action film. The film is apparently a remake of the 2009 Malayalam film Puthiya Mukham and is a solo hero film. In fact, the rights of the Malayalam film have already been acquired and in all probability Ajay Devgn himself along with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. will be producing this film. When we asked Rohit about this project, he did confirm the same but refused to reveal.

Aamir Khan quits from HRD panel on Copyright Act

Aamir Khan quits from HRD panel on Copyright Act

Aamir Khan is in news again, this time round, not for his reel-life, but for his real life. The news that has taken the whole of the media world is that of a heated altercation between him and the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar.

According to Bollywood Hungama’s confirmed sources, the story goes, “In the said meeting, one of the things that came up was a partnership between the creative people and the producers. And one of the key issues that were discussed was the royalty on songs. At one point of time, Aamir pointed out that in the marketing of a song in Bollywood, there’s a lot of contribution from other people, like the actor and others. So, how do we divide the royalties between the lyricists, the music composers and all the other people who also contribute towards the making of the song. And the point that Javed Akhtar was trying to make was that the other people may or may not be the contributors to the song, but the lyricists and the music composers’ contribution is primary to the song. And in the due course, they both brought up examples from their own films. The overall discussion was heated.”

Apparently, if the reports are to be believed, then, it was Aamir’s remarks which angered Javed Akhtar who said that the song Papa Kehte Hain became a hit despite the fact that Aamir was not a star at that time. The panel also includes Javed Akhtar, Boney Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj, Vishal Dadlani, Prasoon Joshi, Anjum Rajabli, Madhu Manthena and Bhushan Kumar.

As a result of all this, Aamir has resigned from the 10-member committee formed by the government to look into the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act. In his letter to the HRD minister Kapil Sibal, Aamir reasoned out the following:

‘I would like to bring to your notice a number of articles which appeared in the media in the past few days. Sir, it seems to me that there is an attempt by certain people to attack me in public by printing lies about me, thereby turning the attention away from a genuine debate about copyright issues. I am grateful to you for inviting me to be part of a committee to discuss the various issues regarding amendments to the Copyright Act. However in light of these public attacks on me I don’t think I am comfortable to be part of this committee. Sir, I take great pride in my honesty and integrity, and attach an enormous amount of value to my sense of justice and fair play. Monetary achievements have never excited me. If they had, I would have acted in many more than one film a year, thereby being financially much richer than I currently am. Had I been driven by monetary achievements I would not have produced films that challenge the mainstream and break new ground, films like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par and PeepliLIVE, that most producers would hesitate to produce.

I believe that what I have earned is the love and respect of my colleagues and my audience. And this I have done through my work and through the manner in which I work. This is why such public attacks are most damaging to me emotionally and leave me crippled. In the past 26 years of my involvement with the film industry I may have made mistakes, but never have I knowingly been dishonest or unfair in my dealings, whether as an assistant director, actor, producer or director.

Therefore I request you to accept my resignation from this committee and please appoint another person in my place.

I believe that amendments to the Copyright Act are long overdue and I am so happy that a person like you is spearheading this movement. I believe that the changes that you are bringing about in the sphere of education are so dynamic, progressive and positive, that I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you will do the same in the field of copyright.’

Official statement from HRD minister on this matter is awaited.

I will be applauded as an actor with Kajrare – Himesh

‘I will be applauded as an actor with Kajrare,’ says Himesh

- Lipika Varma, Sampurn Media
You can’t help but admire Himesh Reshammiya’s confidence and resilience. While any other actor may have been majorly disappointed by three consecutive flops, Himesh is convinced that with his next film, Kajrare, he will win over both critics and audiences.

And he has a solid reason to believe so. Given that he became a singing sensation after a slew of album hits, he doesn’t expect to become a superstar overnight. Slow and steady seems to be his mantra, and he is determined to finish the race as a winner.

In a freewheeling conversation, the singer, music director and actor spoke to us about his approach to his work, the support of his fans, and how he deals with box office failures.

On not being considered a hero
I am already well known as a singer and music director. I have more than 100 songs to my credit. It took me some time to get this recognition. Finally, talent receives its due recognition. I am considered a hero too by my fans. Recognition as a brilliant singer came my way after singing more than 100 songs in varied ways. So how can I get recognition as an actor so soon? I have just three films to my credit; I will have to do at least 50 films to achieve the same kind of adulation as an actor.

On his signature musical style
I have never created an aura about myself by getting undue publicity. I believe in keeping a low profile. My folks feel that I have gained expertise in both singing and acting. I will surely gain recognition as as actor too some day. I’m in no hurry.

On his fan-base
I think mostly the youth above the age of 23 are my fans. I get many fan mails from one and all. I get appreciation for singing and my on-screen performances. One of my fans is a boy named Ali. He is mentally disabled. He lives in Chicago and loves listening to my songs. His father often writes to me stating that his son shows signs of mobility as he listens to my music. I had specially been to Chicago to meet them. It was heartrending to hear the parents say that Ali complies with everything they say – be it eating or anything else they ask of him – as long as my songs are played for him.

On being arrogant and self-obsessed
Actually, I fought for the right things in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the reality show. People may think feel I am arrogant, but trying to ensure people get what they deserve is not wrong. I am blessed to have been gifted with my voice and acting skills. I respect whatever capabilities I have and I am neither arrogant nor self-obssessed. People will have to change their opinion today or tomorrow about me. I am a simpleton who believes in working hard and achieving success. My work speaks for me more than anything else.

On not concentrating on his obvious talent, music
I have already made a mark in the musical domain and now I am concentrating on acting too. Being a businessman, I feel that it is better to have a full package; I think I possess that – singing, acting, music direction. This brings in a lot of benefit to me. I don’t prefer being only a singer as I am over exposed in the field of singing. Why not carry forward the whole beneficial package that I possess?

On not singing for a movie that he is not acting in
Let me elaborate on the previous point I made. Too much of everything is not good. Hence, I want to combine my efforts in both singing and acting. I am confident that my next release, Kajrare, will be a hit.

On failure at the box office
What is a hit and a flop, when I say that I have got the money that I had invested in a movie? All over the country, almost 162 critics have written positive reviews about my film Radio. Generally, log doosro ki taang kheenchte hai. They derive pleasure in pulling others down and creating a negative aura about them. I trust my capabilities and potential and will strive to gain recognition as an actor very soon. I have just started, I am just three films-old; have patience till I make it big on the silver screen.
